The Story
The Kiangoi washing station is one of three wet mills owned by the Rung’eto Farmers Cooperative in Kirinyaga, Central Kenya. This region, renowned for its volcanic soils, is home to smallholder farmers who cultivate coffee on the slopes of Mount Kenya. With climatic changes and the rising popularity of disease-resistant varieties, coffee from this area now showcases a broader range of flavor profiles. While classic jammy blackcurrant notes remain, new flavors like plums, red fruit, hoppy florals, and citrus fruits are becoming more common.
Having roasted coffee from Kiangoi for four years, we believe these lots exemplify the exciting potential of the new wave of Kenyan coffee. Expect a well-balanced and juicy cup, featuring vibrant notes of blackberry and redcurrant, complemented by subtle hemp-like herbals. At the Kiangoi factory, smallholder farmers deliver their cherries for processing, receiving a small advance before the remaining payment is made post-sale. This meticulous process ensures that only the highest quality beans reach the market.
